Description

The City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill our General Utility Worker position. Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor the General Utility Worker operates a variety of small equipment relating to the maintenance of streets and roads including operating a steam boiler, traffic line marking, oiling program, traffic sign maintenance, storm sewer maintenance and general repair of City streets and lanes.

This position will perform the following duties:
-    Investigate complaints related to sidewalks, paved or dirt roads, snow removal and sanding.
-    Clean and repair culverts and catch basins; clear blocked storm sewers.
-    Operate and maintain equipment for painting traffic lines, including supervising staff.
-    Repair and erect traffic and streets signs, including carrying out maintenance and repairs to traffic light poles and davits.
-    Supervise and erect street banners and street decorations
-    Perform basic welding and acetylene torch use
-    Supervise and co-ordinate the required barricading for City projects and operating tasks.
-    Operate City owned sand truck.

Qualified candidates will have:
-    Class 1-A driver's license.
-    Certificate for 20 hours of basic training in welding from a recognized technical institute.
-    Fireman's Certificate for the operation of pressure boilers and steam plant.
-    Front End Loader Operator Certificate.
-    Able to obtain certifications for Flagmen's Instructor, First Aid and CPR.
-    Effective interpersonal skills an able to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other staff members and the public.

This position may be required to work weekends and shift work when required.
