Job Description: The Mental Health Nurse Educator provides development initiatives and leadership in these spheres of nursing: clinical practice, education, research and quality improvement.

The position reports to the Nursing Unit Manager of Mental health Inpatients. The incumbent is self-directed and requires minimum supervision.

The Nurse Educator integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct patient care, clinical coordination, clinical problem-solving, education and research for a defined group of patients and/or programs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)
Experience
Requires a minimum of three to five years nursing experience in an Acute Mental Health setting
Previous experience in nursing education
Demonstrates teaching skills specifically post RN/RPN courses
Understands the nursing process and principles of adult learning
Demonstrates basic computer skills applicable to nursing units
Experience in developing programs/resources for staff in the areas of planning, implementation, quality monitoring and evaluation
