Description

Location: 4 positions in Elbow & 2 in Beechy, SK

The Water Quality and Habitat Assessment Services unit is seeking motivated, enthusiastic, self-reliant Technical Assistants for a field-based position that includes Species at Risk surveys, monitoring and management.  As a Technical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in Species at Risk conservation, management and applied ecological monitoring.  Under the guidance of the Senior Avian Ecologist, the successful candidates will focus on enhancing nest success and reducing the risks associated with flooding.  

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
    Habitat measurement and ground truthing;
    Collection of spatial data,
    Collection of nesting data,
    Behavioral Observations, nest monitoring,
    Operation and maintenance of data collection equipment,
    Landowner contacts and data recording,
    Input and analysis.

Qualifications and Requirements:

The ideal candidates will be college, university students or recent graduates in wildlife biology or ecology, environmental biology, general biology, natural resources management, or a related field. Applicants must have a valid drivers license and be prepared to work irregular hours. Shared accommodations will be provided in Elbow and Beechy.  Travel and sustenance will be provided depending on location and hours of work.

Applicants should be able to work outdoors in a variety of climates and conditions and be enthusiastic team players who can relate well with private landowners. Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience with applicable biological sampling techniques involving the operation of ATVs, and small outboard motor boats. Employees in these positions will routinely work on and around lakes, streams, and other bodies of water.
