What I have put into place in my store is that my shift leads are the trainers because they have that leadership quality in them.

One thing I look for in trainers (for foh) though is the one who goes above and beyond with the guest, makes those connections. It teaches the new hires that we dont want them rushing through anything and to build a relationship not just serve a table.

For both sides, someone who motivates and inspires others. Someone coming into a new place with all new people, menu items, and rules needs that.
