Description

Matthews Funeral Home of Melville is inviting applications for a full-time position providing support services to our professional staff and the families we serve.  This job is available March 1, 2019.        

Applicants should consider that this job involves:
- heavy lifting
- being called out any hour
- driving long distances
- basic maintenance and mechanical servicing of vehicles
- working outdoors in all kinds of weather
- having a valid Class 5 drivers license (SGI clearance to drive our fleet vehicles is required)
- residing in or close to Melville for urgent call-outs
- maintaining strict confidentiality
- needing strong communication skills
- maintaining a professional appearance and demeanour
- treating families with empathy and respect
- treating the deceased with respect and dignity
- representing Matthews Funeral Home in a professional manner at all times
    
The responsibilities of the position are as follows:
- the transfer of deceased persons from place of death to the funeral home
- grave site equipment set-up and take-down
- occasional assistance at funerals as an attendant
- janitorial duties
- building maintenance and repair
- grounds keeping
- fleet maintenance (cleaning, oil changes, tire rotations, etc.)
- miscellaneous general duties as assigned

If you are looking for an eight to five, Monday to Friday job with a guaranteed time-off schedule, this position is NOT for you.  If you are willing to dedicate yourself to the unpredictable nature of this position, and by extension the families we serve, then we want to hear from you.  This is a salaried position, and the successful candidate will be asked to sign a Modified Work Arrangement, as allowed by the Ministry of Labour, for the purpose of averaging work hours over a four-week period.  Annual salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
