Main Duties:
- Selection of the high quality woods, calculate requirements and determine type of work to be conducted,
- Measure, cut , shape and sand wooden surfaces and applying varnish, veneer, stain or wax for finish;
- Prepare layouts for wood and creating prototypes,
- Operate hand saws and other woodworking power and hand tools,
- Laminate furniture components and applying laminated plastics to solid surfaces to furniture frames,
- Restore and repair Chinese antique furniture in using Chai Kai technique to disassembling the furniture. Maintain, repair and restore wooden furniture by using pegs and joint
- May create authentic, retro or antique furniture looks.
- Sketch dragon or phoenix design and carving on a flat wooden surface according to the sketch
- May instruct and lead apprentices and trainees
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Completion of secondary school.
- At least 4 years experience in making or restoration of oriental wooden furniture in using different types of Chinese woods including Huanghuali, Huali, Zitan,Hong Suanzhi, Hei Suanzhi, Xiangzhi, Wu/Yinchen , Tiaowen wu and Jichi wood.
- Good knowledge of oriental furniture designs.
- Well experience in hand craving dragon , birds and figures in woods.
- Good English communication skills.
- Relevant certification in foreign countries (Carpentry, Woodwork, etc.) will be considered as an asset.
