Which famous Canadian rebel was hidden under the floorboards of a church in downtown Regina? Which Regina event from 1912 involved a survivor of the Titanic? Join the team of Regina Downtown Business Improvement District as a Research Assistant and develop historical walking tours that bring to life the answers to questions on the history of Regina.
Cultural Trailway is a heritage preservation partner project between Regina Downtown Business Improvement District and Heritage Regina. The project consists of three components: a booklet that outlines the historical significance of buildings, events and people that have shaped Regina, two 90-minute walking tours that share the stories of historical Regina residents, events and buildings, and an audio tour/mobile app that allow for further exploration. The Research Assistant will support the development of Cultural Trailway walking tours of historical events, buildings, and people in the downtown area. They will conduct research into the social and built history of Regina, making use of archival materials. They will develop two new walking tours to be launched in 2020: Icons of Regina (on individuals and events who have influenced the history of Regina) and Brick by Brick (on the architectural heritage of the city). They will oversee the redesign of the Cultural Trailway booklet that will amplify the walking tour experience. The Research Assistant will update the Cultural Trailway mobile app and audio tour.
