Contract/Seasonal:
Part time (22.5 hours weekly) March 4th to March 15th;
full time (37.5 hours weekly) March 18th to November 1st;
part time (22.5 hours weekly) November 4th to November 22nd.
Qualifications:
Experience in horticulture, market gardening, or other food production.
Cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
Familiarity working with volunteers an asset.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field, an asset.
Job Duties:
Coordinate food production at the Garden Patch including:
-Manual labor such as garden planning, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, composting, mulching, etc.
-Ensure timely delivery of produce to our warehouse
- Supervise, train, and mentor Horticulture Assistants
- keep accurate records on harvest and planting.
Coordinate site maintenance activities including:
-Ensure the Garden Patch is well maintained, clean, safe, organized, and welcoming for staff and volunteers.
-Design and implement site improvement projects.
-Coordinate equipment rentals and materials delivery.
Support the work of the Engagement and Education Coordinators
-Maintain a task list for staff and volunteers.
-Ensure volunteers have tools and materials they need to work effectively.
-Assist in outreach activities such as tabling at trade shows and being an ambassador for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
-Share horticultural knowledge with staff and volunteers, as required.
-Assist with leading volunteer groups, as required.
Contribute to an empowering and inclusive environment where visitors, volunteers, and coworkers are treated with respect and dignity.
Assume responsibilities of the Urban Agriculture Program Manager in their absence.
Work Environment:
Working outdoors in rain, heat, cold. Working within an office setting in spring and fall.
Working with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
