Description

The Youth Addiction Counsellor is responsible to provide counselling services, crisis intervention and case management to youth residents either individually or within group sessions.  
In collaboration with other therapeutic professionals, the Youth Addiction Counsellor provides support and supervision for the analysis, prevention and treatment of substance use and concurrent disorders and to foster the development of coping, problem solving and communication skills for clients.
Services will focus on guiding youth to solve problems and make positive changes in their life.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides individual counseling sessions to clients
Facilitates group sessions based upon the stages of change model
Documents all pertinent information in client files (either written or electronic)
Accompanies youth clients to appointments such as physician, dentist, shopping, hair, and other related appointments
Ensures that clients know about, and are compliant with, all the rules, guidelines and safety standards of WBTC
Establishes an ongoing and emotionally supportive relationship with clients through frequent or daily contact
Assists in modifying counterproductive behaviour and attitudes of youth clients through supportive behavior modeling techniques, coaching and counselling
Provides counselling services that help define, clarify or increase understanding of problems and to help build capacities for dealing with them within clients
Create individual care plans with clients, discharge plans and follow up
