Description

SWCS is committed to taking action to prevent and alleviate violence and abuse by empowering people to be confident, knowledgeable about healthy relationships, and have the capacity to thrive. While the Outreach team has already in place mentorship, support counseling and practical assistance for females and youth impacted by relationship/family violence, it is increasingly apparent the need to adopt more approaches that involve males in domestic violence prevention. The idea is that by addressing the root causes, and by empowering males capacities to engage in healthier relationships and nurture other coping methods, these programs can stop domestic violence from occurring in the first place. It is also important to have in place the capacities to support males who may themselves be survivors of domestic violence.

Goals:
1.) Provide info on personal & family violence, its impact on the individual & their family.
2.) Provide one-on-one support to individuals dealing with personal family violence. This will include both crisis and longer ongoing support: providing individual support counseling services, access to group sessions, practical assistance and violence prevention education.
3.) Provide referrals to community resources for ongoing support as well as opportunities to connect with community groups/activities to encourage a sense of belonging in their community.

The appropriate candidate will be able to:
Work autonomously: manage own time & work within specific timelines, prioritize tasks, collect & interpret service-user data
Manage & conduct group sessions as well as one-on-one counselling
Be receptive, respectful and sensitive to the needs of the service-users & comply with strict Confidentiality

If you are interested in this position, please do not hesitate to apply ASAP. Hiring process is ongoing & the posting will be closed once a suitable candidate is found.
