The School Support Worker works directly and collaboratively with a caseload of students and their families, school staff, and community service providers to implement strategies that address school success, as well as issues of self-regulation, self-esteem, and social skills with both elementary and high school aged students.
Duties & Responsibilities
Use data from systematic monitoring to design personalized interventions for the student
Work as a liaison to facilitate communication and promote problem solving
Attend varied school-based meetings
Provide students and families with information and develop agency linkages
Work collaboratively with schools and programs to define and outline roles to improve student success
Develop and deliver life skills/social skills workshops and activities for small groups and classrooms
Document and report client progress and concerns
To adhere to YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures
To comply with YMCA policies and procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
At least 2 years post-secondary education in a Human Service Field
At least 2 years successful experience in a related field
Strong knowledge of community resources and networking capabilities to make referrals
Strong understanding of anxiety, depression, and self-esteem
Clear understanding of following work plans and evaluating program outcomes
Enthusiastic, energetic and have an outgoing personality
Group facilitation and individual mentorship skills and experience
Extremely organized with time management skills
Access to a vehicle and ability to travel
OHS Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
Drivers Licence Clearance
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date
Successful candidate will be required to complete and pass the YMCA Child Protection Training
