This position offers potential candidates a unique combination of archaeological fieldwork, research, predictive modelling, project management and program development. As a member of the Environment Department, the Resource Specialist, Archaeology is responsible for evaluating proposed SaskPower projects for their potential impacts on heritage resources as well as conducting fieldwork on smaller projects under an annual comprehensive permit held with the Heritage Conservation Branch. They will also participate on project planning teams for larger projects, and manage the archaeological consultants who conduct heritage impact assessments on SaskPowers behalf.
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in heritage impact assessment and mitigation. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a comprehensive archaeological investigation permit from the Saskatchewan Heritage Conservation Branch. They must also manage external contractors to ensure that appropriate heritage impact assessments and/or mitigation are conducted and the necessary regulatory approvals are obtained. They will need a working knowledge of GIS to operate SaskPowers GIS database and screening tools. They will need well developed teamwork, leadership and project management skills to work with the multi-disciplinary SaskPower project teams and champion SaskPowers innovative approach to heritage resource management.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, or equivalent AND/OR;
Masters Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, or equivalent
Must be qualified to hold a Heritage Resource Investigation permit, or equivalent
Five (5) years of related experience conducting heritage resource impact assessments or cultural resource management related to Western Canadian or Northern plains archaeology/history, or equivalent
