Avena Foods is recruiting a highly-motivated Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician for its Regina oat processing plant. This full-time, entry level position prepares samples and conducts laboratory tests on raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance of oats and finished products with Avena's high standards for food safety and quality. The incumbent also conducts inspections, prepares documents, makes risk-based decisions, and acts as backup for the Grain Receiving Quality Technician.
The successful applicant will understand and live by Avena's values, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be a strong team player who is not shy to work closely with multiple departments. They must pay close attention to detail, have good logical problem-solving and organizational skills, be able to follow written and oral instructions, be good at multitasking, and be punctual and flexible regarding work schedule (including early mornings, afternoons, and weekends as needed). The applicant must also be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs short distances.
Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) is required. A Bachelor of Science in related science field is strongly recommended. Advanced Understanding of basic microbiology and laboratory environment is critical to satisfy job requirements. One to two years of previous experience in Food Manufacturing industry is preferred. Knowledge of HACCP, GFSI standards (BRC, SQF, FSSC etc.) and ISO 17025 standards are considered a strong asset.
