PURPOSE:
To manage and operate the Parts Department as a profit centre while maintaining customer satisfaction at all times. The Parts Manager should be knowledgeable about parts and the use of the parts catalogs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Establish financial and operational objectives and prepare monthly sales and gross profit forecasts.
-Maintain effective inventory control system.
-Communicate effectively with Service and Sales Departments about availability of parts and any critical back-order situations.
-Develop systems for back-order control and customer follow-up, and maintain a liaison with manufacturer(s).
-Understand and follow parts policies and procedures for returns, parts warranties, etc.
-Conduct perpetual inventory control. Supervise an annual physical inventory.
-Maintain, issue, and accurately implement a purchase order system.
-Maximize gross profit by effective ordering of parts to insure maximum parts return allowance.
-Prepare stock orders and complete paperwork.
-Develop merchandising and contact systems to promote sales to all markets and customers.
-Implement standards of good housekeeping and insist on cleanliness.
-Sell parts over the counter to wholesale and counter retail customers.
-Inform customers when parts special-ordered for them are received.
-Determine correct parts numbers and pick parts for orders received.
-Arrange for delivery or shipment of parts as required.
-Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
-Answer phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
-Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs in process.
-Keep current on new products and product updates.
-Participate in all training programs that are made available.
-Maintain a lost sale tracking program.
