This is a permanent, full time position requiring knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Metis & Inuit student graduation, transition and retention needs in a K-12 school system.The First Nations of Day Star, Fishing Lake, George Gordon, Kawacatoose, Muskowekwan, One Arrow, and YellowQuill can be found within the boundaries of Horizon
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Provide leadership and support for continual improvement of graduation, attendance, and retention;
Liaison between schools and the First Nations community;
Working with principals, teachers, families and other partners to support First Nations, Metis & Inuit students;
Facilitation of open communication between teachers and principals and First Nations, Metis & Inuit families;
Promote and facilitate cultural awareness for students, families/caregivers and school staff;
Aid in the development of partnerships with First Nations, Metis & Inuit organizations and communities in order to promote positive learning opportunities for students;
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a school principal;
Valid teaching certificate;
Bachelor of Education;
Master's Degree;
Eligibility for membership in League of Educational Administrators, Directors and Superintendents (LEADS);
Five (5) years of teaching experience;
Breadth of knowledge of First Nations culture;
Commitment to student learning, growth and achievement;
Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills.
This position will commence for the 2019-2020 school year.
