The Phlebotomist is responsible for both the collection of quality blood samples and assist with administrative responsibilities while following company procedures and best practices. This position reports to the Facility Director.
Job description
- Ensure proper patient identification
- Perform venipuncture, choosing best method for drawing blood
- Ensure proper vial labeling
- Centrifuge blood samples
- Follow established serum processing procedures
- Follow established sample storage procedures
- Ship samples according to company procedures
- Ensure work station is well organized and prepared with proper supplies, equipment and paperwork
- Practice infection control standards
- Disinfect and clean equipment, safely disposing of medical waste
- Basic computer skills
- Administrative duties, including answering phones, booking appointments and purchasing supplies
- Other duties as assigned
- Be friendly, sympathetic and professional
- Physically able to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting and prolonged standing and walking
Educational Requirements
- Successful completion of a recognized phlebotomy training program
- At least one year experience working as a phlebotomist
- CPR C/AED certificate (CPR HPC/AED certificate an asset)
- WHMIS 2015 -Globally Harmonized System (GHS) certificate
