Description

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) is seeking a highly motivated student to fill a summer term as an Advocacy Research Assistant, starting in May 2019.  

SUMA is the voice of Saskatchewans hometowns, the cities, towns, villages, and northern municipalities across the province, representing our members interests to other orders of government. SUMAs office is in Regina.

Under the direction of the Manager of Advocacy Services, the successful candidate will undertake advocacy research and analysis and draft correspondence, information papers, reference documents, and briefing materials. The Advocacy Research Assistant will also assist on programs administered by SUMA, updating policy related databases, and assisting on any internal policy review.

Main Responsibilities:
Conduct advocacy research and draft correspondence, information papers, reference documents, and briefing materials
Assist with SUMA program administration
Update policy related databases

Assist with SUMAs communications

Skills and Knowledge:
Intermediate skill level with the Microsoft Office suite of software (including Word, Excel, and Access).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
Effective research and analytical skills and strong organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail.

Typically, the successful candidate will be pursuing a degree in political science, public policy, law, economics, other social sciences, or related fields.
