Description

The Communications Branch of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Trade and Export Development is seeking a highly skilled, creative and motivated communications professional to lead a strong team of communicators in the Ministry. Additionally, you will provide communications services to the Ministries of Energy and Resources and Immigration and Career Training through a shared services agreement.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications, the Director assists in preparing the Ministry strategic plan and budget, provides advice to senior management and staff, ensures effective quality control, and oversees the preparation of Ministry publications, speeches, feature articles, news releases, internal communications and the organization of special events.

To qualify for this position, you must have a comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of strategic communications, with a grasp of public policy issues, and expertise in media relations, social media and issues management.  Superior verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills, leadership and the capacity to excel in high pressure situations are also necessary.  In addition, excellent organizational and time management skills, along with the ability to motivate, coach and manage performance of professional communication staff are required.

Typically, the skills and knowledge for this position will have been gained through a university degree in journalism, communications, or related field of study, combined with three to eight years of experience in media and corporate communications, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and track record of achievement.
