Westmoreland Coal Company, Canada currently has a position available for a permanent, full-time Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic at the Estevan Mine.
Responsibilities include a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:
- Repair work to equipment, both in the field and in the central shop as well as preventive maintenance on equipment used on the mine site.
- Runs small support equipment to aid the maintenance process such as forklifts, cranes and tire handlers.
- Uses hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments to repair and maintain, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturers specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and production machines and equipment.
- Assist in tasks related to predictive/preventive maintenance technologies.
- Assist in the maintenance of drills and other mine related equipment.
- Fundamental understanding of the properties of the various types of fuels, oils, greases and lubricants used to service equipment.
- Collects data on machine operations and suggests actions to reduce machine downtime.
- Ability to support the mine site in compliance with all mine regulations.
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certificate as well as an interprovincial red seal.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Demonstrate a strong awareness and understanding of work-related safety practices.
- Prior mechanical experience or mechanical technical education.
- Candidates possessing either a 3A or 1A license with previous mining experience would be an asset but not required.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends and night shifts.
- Exhibit acceptable interpersonal skills and the continuous ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere.
