The Canadian Light Source is currently recruiting for Operators in the Accelerator Operations and Development (AOD) Department. Reporting to the Operator Lead, the Operator ensures that the accelerator is operating within the conditions of the CLS licence, performs routine operational tasks related to beam delivery and provides support to facility users.
Responsibilities:
Follow well-defined procedures, start up and operate accelerator systems
Monitor accelerator systems
Respond to alarms
Performs compliance checks
May coordinate technical support outside of normal working hours
Provides support and assistance to users outside of regular business hours
Monitor work related to operations through centralized control room procedures and documentation
Provides emergency assistance during any scheduled operator shifts; acts as a first responder to emergencies
Utilizes a variety of monitoring, sampling, and analytical equipment and instruments
Assists with testing, repair, and maintenance of a variety of safety equipment
Responsible for checks on fire protection system, egress/staircase/exit, AED, and pest control program devices
Assist with routine safety system testing including ACIS, AARMS, Oxygen Monitoring

Hours of Work:
This position requires candidates to be available for a rotating shift schedule, based on 24/7 operations.
Training (Phase 1, start date of July 2)
6 weeks; Candidates will be required to work Monday to Friday, from 8:00am-4:30pm
Operations (Phase 2)
Candidates may be scheduled for shifts Sunday to Saturday
Day Shift 8:00am-4:30pm, Evening Shift 4:00pm-12:30am, Night Shift 12:00am-8:00am
Operations (Phase 3, estimated to begin September 1)
Candidates will be scheduled for shifts 24/7, on a rotating schedule
Day Shift 7:00am-7:00pm or 8:00am-8:00pm, Night Shift 7:00pm-7:00am or 8:00pm-8:00am
