The Saskatchewan Geological Survey is seeking a geoscience student for its Precambrian Geological Laboratory in La Ronge. Main duties in this position include the compilation of geological data using spreadsheets and word processors; scanning and photocopying files and checking the scanned products for accuracy; organization of geological records; data entry of geological records into databases; answering phone inquiries and assisting clients with assessment files as well as helping them locate core and rock samples; organization of mineralized core, sample libraries, and equipment.
The successful candidate will have basic computer skills including software such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Knowledge of Microsoft Access is an asset. The successful candidate will have knowledge of scientific principles, as well as an interest in geoscience and mathematics. Strong verbal communication skills are essential, as are strong organization skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have a background in at least one of the following disciplines: geology, geography, environmental engineering/science, or mining.
Special requirements of this position are that living expenses while working in La Ronge are not included. Successful applicants must also possess a valid drivers license, good physical fitness, excellent interpersonal skills, and have a valid criminal record check.
