The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
Develop, implement and maintain counselling and programs for students;
Provides counselling services to students to ensure their success;
Provide students and parents with information on school policies, procedures, local agencies and
services;
Maintain student files in a confidential and professional manner;
Initiate and/or participate in case conferences, meetings and/or workshops;
Provide classroom presentations relevant to students needs;
Conduct assessments of the psychological, social, emotional and environmental needs of students;
Work collaboratively with and consult with school base administrators, teachers, school support staff, caregivers,, outside agencies and Education staff to develop a wide variety of programs;
Participate in home visits;
Meet provincial requirements with regard to professional regulations, code of ethics.
Other duties as assigned from time to time.
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
A Degree in Social Work with specific focus on counselling;
Minimum of two (2) years previous social worker experience;
Sound knowledge on basic counselling practices; able to maintain strict confidentiality; and able to demonstrate strong ethical judgements;
Knowledge of and sensitivity to First Nations culture and language and cross-cultural issues; ability to speak Cree will be considered and asset;
Essential skills: planning, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership and counseling skills;
Demonstrated communication (written and verbal), public relations, computer, and organizational skills;
Establish parent group;
Must possess valid Class 5 driver's license and provide a satisfactory Drivers Abstract;
Must have satisfactory current Criminal Record Check and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check;
Preferably, own a vehicle.
