Description

David Aplin Group, one of Canadas Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for a Senior Accountant to join their team in Regina, Sask.

Responsibilities:
Manage the reporting process from several companies
Complete accurate and timely month-end closes and financial statements
Prepare journal entries to record complex manual accounting activities such as reinsurance, investment contracts, segregated and pooled funds, and actuarial calculations
Assist with monthly and annual budgeting and forecasting
Review and analyze reporting and account balances, to ensure accuracy, and make improvement recommendations
Keep informed of GAAP, IFRS developments
Work with internal and external auditors during the annual audit
Act as a technical resource and coach for more junior team members
Serve as a key resource on accounting and reporting issues to senior leaders and peers
As a senior member of the Finance team, take the initiative to formulate and recommend process improvements or solutions to problems that may affect all teams.

The Ideal Candidate:
CPA  CMA, CGA or CA designation
Minimum 5 years of accounting/financial statement preparation experience
Solid understanding of and experience with financial reporting (GAAP, IFRS), as well as the budgeting and forecasting process
Strong business skills with previous leadership experience
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities, with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to analyze reported data to recognize and correct significant errors, or explain significant variances
An innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and the ability to influence change
Critical thinking skills and an excellent communicator with a solutions-oriented mindset
Great relationship builder with the ability to provide guidance to support the development of colleagues
