The Cree Nations Treatment Haven is currently looking for a 1 year position for a Addictions Counsellor. Priority given to First Nations people.
Under the direction and reporting regularly to the Clinical Supervisor, the addictions counsellor will perform duties in the area:
- Provide clients with basic education about chemical dependency and its effects on themselves and other systems and to facilitates educational lectures as assigned.
- Provide individual counselling to clients in their care with dealing with problem areas, develop a treatment plan, come up with strategies for crisis situations, complete the residential assessment package, and develop an aftercare plan.
- Facilitate group therapy session
- Provide clients with information regarding program expectations, house policies, and program components
- Maintain individual files and update progress reports after each counseling session.
-Prepare discharge summary reports for all clients in their care and forward to regerral agent no lster than 7 working days after client has left the treatment centre.
-Attend clinical mettings to review client progress
-Attend general staff meeting
-Abide by the Cree Nations Treatment Haven Code of Ethical Standards
-Act as a role model
-Attend staff training sessions
-Perform any other duties that may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional Addiction Counsellor Certification or post-secondary diploma or degree in Addictions studies or human sciences. Minimum of 2 years counselling experience in the addictions field working with First Nations. Ability to plan and deliver a residential treatment program. Knowledge and understanding of the native culture language, organizations and communications. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Living an alcohol/drug free lifestyle, have a clear understanding of the life Process Model of Addictionns, self help groups such as AA, NA, AL-Anon, and the Cree Nations Treatment Philosophy.
