Description

Job Summary
The responsibility of the Sisters Strengthening Sisters Project Staff is to provide services to female Indian Residential School Survivors and female descendants affected by intergenerational trauma as a result of Indian Residential School.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
    To facilitate the teaching of traditional Indigenous items and cultural knowledges, such as beading, sewing and life skills
    To eliminate barriers to participation through provision of transportation, childcare and meals
    To educate community organizations of the diverse needs of Indigenous women and girls
    To facilitate Sharing Circles, workshops and Healing Groups
    To ensure the completion of evaluation forms, daily logs and reports
    To ensure GBA+ in all work plans
    To participate in any/all fundraising initiatives and community events of the SIMFC
    Hours of work will normally be 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, 3 times weekly
    Hours of work will vary to include occasional evening and weekend shifts in accordance with the requirements of the Friendship Centre, as well as, with the Friendship Centres programming events and fundraising activities
    Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
    Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history
    Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve.
    A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment.
    Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
    The ability to relate to clients in a non-judgmental manner, and to respect client confidentiality.
    Experience in handling emergency situations, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and case management.
    Standard First Aid/CPR, ASIST Certification, Naloxone training and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training are considered assets
    Some post-secondary education within Indigenous Social Work is a definite asset
