Sisters Strengthening Sisters Childcare Staff
The Sisters Strengthening Sisters Project is an integral program, among other diverse services at the Saskatoon Indian and Metis Friendship Centre, promoting female equity. The responsibility of the Sisters Strengthening Sisters Project Staff is to childcare, allowing caregivers to participate in the project.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
    To provide exceptional childcare to Indigenous children of all ages
    To plan and facilitate age appropriate activities for children
    To prepare snacks for children
    To ensure a safe environment for Indigenous children of all ages
    To lead guided play times
    To teach Indigenous children age-appropriate, culturally relevant lessons through reading, activities and role-modeling
    To participate in any/all fundraising initiatives and community events of the Saskatoon Indian and Metis Friendship Centre
    Hours of work will normally be 4:00-7:00 p.m., 2 times weekly, totaling 6 hours per week
    Hours of work will vary including occasional evening and weekend shifts in accordance with the requirements of the Friendship Centre, as well as, with the Friendship Centres programming events and fundraising activities
    Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
    Previous child care, First Aid & CPR and Food Safe are assets.
    Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history.
    The ability to engage Indigenous families to build trust and rapport.
    A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment
    Working Knowledge of the dynamics of gender and racial disparities and other social issues
    The ability to relate to clients and respect client confidentiality
    Experience in handling emergency situations, conflict resolution, crisis intervention and case management
    Strong written and verbal communication skills, and computer skills
    The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment
