Description

The Ministry of Corrections and Policing pursues a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan. As corrections professionals, we provide the safe and secure custody of adult and young offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce reoffending.

The Ministry is accepting applications for Mental Health Correctional Officers.  Mental Health Correctional Officers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. As a Mental Health Correctional Officer you will work in the secure units within the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford providing and delivering correctional services and programs in an integrated multi-disciplinary model/partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

A Mental Health Correctional Officer will establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal); manage a caseload of adult patients, applying various counseling methodologies including addressing criminogenic factors and their relationship to human behavior; maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment; accurately input, update and format information using a variety of computer software and electronic systems; work closely with adult patients who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems, and be available for shift work.

Requirements:
Knowledge and experience working within criminal justice systems and processes; human behaviours, and various counseling and case management practices.

Typically, a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
