Description

The Ministry of Corrections and Policing pursues a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan. As corrections professionals, we provide the safe and secure custody of adult and young offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce reoffending.
The Ministry is accepting applications for Permanent Part Time Facility Youth Workers across the province (Saskatchewan Correctional Facilities). Facility Youth Workers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Facility Youth Workers are responsible and accountable, exhibit leadership, embrace diversity and equality, and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
A Facility Youth Worker will provide developmental programming and care, and custody  for youth aged twelve to seventeen years under the Youth Criminal Justice Act; manage a caseload of youth in custody who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural, spiritual belief systems; apply counseling methodologies including addressing criminogenic factors and their relationship to human behaviours; establish, build and maintain work relationships  utilizing effective interpersonal communications (both written and verbal); maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment; work proficiently using a variety of computer software and electronic systems, and work shift work.
Typically, a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
