Job Description: Under the direction of Director of Mental Health and Addictions, the Suicide Intervention Worker is responsible for the following throughout the area.

Development of suicide prevention strategies and programs for all residents, especially for youth, and coordinating implementation of these; providing education, training and guidance to clinicians and others working with at risk clients in the areas of assessment, treatment and case management

Coordinating response to suicides throughout the area, including debriefing of professional and other helpers and response strategy analysis; developing and maintaining a resource base pertaining to suicide prevention.

Required Qualifications

Valid Class 5 driver's license
A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Nursing
Experience
Experience in counseling and in working with suicidal persons.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced counseling skills
Conflict resolution skills to effectively handle difficult issues
Ability to effectively handle a large caseload, be a self-starter
Computer skills including Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheets, email and internet
Ability to speak a First Nations or Mtis language is an asset
