Description

The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for the position of Seasonal Labourer in the Community Services Division.

Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent you will assist with the maintenance of City parks and greenspaces, sports field grounds and related City properties. This will include mowing, string trimming, top dressing, aerating and fertilizing of turf, along with application of herbicides. Other duties will include daily maintenance of parks washroom facilities and playgrounds, working indoors on the construction and refinishing of park furniture and during the winter months, maintenance of the outdoor ice rinks. In addition, you may be required to assist the Cemeterian in opening and closing of graves.  

Basic Requirements:
    Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent);
    Willingness to become Youth Certified;
    A valid Saskatchewan Driver's License;
    Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicators License class 3 (Landscape).  Must be able to obtain this license within three months of hiring;
    Able to operate small gas engines - powered equipment (e.g. lawn mowers, rototillers, string trimmers, chainsaws, etc.);
    Able to perform outside physical labour always of the year; and
    Able to work alone or with a crew.

Desirable Requirements:
    Previous experience in the operation of utility tractors (20 - 80 hp);
    Previous experience in irrigation system maintenance and troubleshooting;
    Occupational Health and Safety Training;  
    Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping or some closely related field;
    Mechanical aptitude and experience in maintaining small gas engines; and
    Ability to read plans and blueprints.
