Job Description: THE GESTATIONAL DIABETES NURSE EDUCATOR WILL ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT, ORGANIZATION, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES WHO HAVE BEEN REFERRED.

A Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) is a health professional, committed to excellence in diabetes education, who has a sound knowledge base in diabetes care/management and education processes, as well as good communication skills and who has passed the Canadian Diabetes Educator's Certification Board (CDECB) exam.
Experience
REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF THREE TO FIVE YEARS NURSING EXPERIENCE IN HOME CARE NURSING.  PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN NURSING EDUCATION IS DESIRABLE.  DEMONSTRATES TEACHING SKILLS.  UNDERSTANDS THE NURSING PROCESS AND PRINCIPLES OF ADULT LEARNING. DEMONSTRATES BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS APPLICABLE TO HOME CARE.  EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPING PROGRAMS/RESOURCES FOR STAFF IN THE AREAS OF PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, QUALITY MONITORING AND EVALUATION.

To become a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) each candidate must successfully complete the Canadian Diabetes Educator's Certification Board (CDECB) exam that is administered annually.

Must have 2 years of recent and relevant Perinatal/obstetrical registered nursing experience. Knowledge of the EMR program is preferred.

56 hours in a 3 week rotation. Shifts (days, evenings, nights) including actual hours, date of commencement and temporary end dates are for informational purpose only and may be subject to change.
Expected Start Date: September 1, 2019
FTE: 0.50
