Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting clients/patients/residents and special needs individuals to meet their needs through activities of daily living, inclusive of physical, spiritual and emotional needs. Also help these individuals to maintain as much independence as possible in a safe environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bathing. Grooming (comb hair, shave, set hair).
Oral care (brush natural teeth, brush dentures).
Bowel and bladder care including catheters and ostomy bags.
Skin, nails, eye care.
Take vital signs.
Ensure proper hydration.
Assist with treatments as ordered by doctor/care plan (bowel care suppositories and enemas, ointments and simple dressings).
Supervise meal and nutritional periods and assist as required before, during and after meals, feed clients/patients/residents who cant feed themselves.
Dress and undress clients/patients/residents.
Assist with mobility and/or transfer client/patient/resident to and from bed, chair, commode, bath chair etc., using various aides as ordered.
Observe skin for break down, condition of feet and nails and overall condition.
Teaching daily living activities such as how to wash, dress, feed themselves.
Ensure the emotional well-being of clients/patients/residents, monitor their behavior and manage same as outlined by care plans.
Ensure good communication with client/patient/resident and their support system.
Ensure spiritual needs are met and client/patient/residents are involved in activities if possible
Completion of a Home Care/Special Care Aide course
Grade 10 and Equivalent combination of education and experience
