Description

Cultural Class Instructor
As an instructor of the SIMFC Elder in the Class Program, you will deliver First Nation and Metis Cultural teachings and activities for up to 25 (kindergarten to Grade 8) students from the Saskatoon Public School.
The position will be a term from first week September 2019 until March 2020.  Rate of pay will be $30 an hour.
Qualifications:
     Relevant combination of work and experience will be considered
    Experience in teaching cultural activities to children under 12 years of age.
    Knowledge and protocol of First Nations teachings.
    Experience in storytelling and First Nations/Metis history.
    Understanding of Saskatoons Indigenous Community.
    A valid driver license and access to a vehicle.
    Preference will be given to First Nation/Metis Candidates (Please self-identify).
    Must be adaptable to changing work environments.
Roles and Responsibilities:
    Lesson Planning by creating First Nation/Metis activities for classrooms.
    Creating and implementing workplan/schedule for the year in conjunction with school personell.
    Instructing 4 days per week Cultural classes at the SIMFC or at the school.
    Purchasing materials and supplies for the project, and working within the budget.
    Working closely with Program coordinator to ensure proper protocols are being met for each activities being taught.
    Providing traditional game instruction and participating in games.
    Providing instruction on traditional arts and crafts.
    Providing education on First Nations and Metis history.
    Teaching traditional life skills, ei fire making, cooking, etc.
    All materials must be interactive and engaging for age group.
