As a result of our varied and combined backgrounds, Discovery Seed Labs has become an Industry Leader for Seed testing in Western Canada.

Discovery Seed Labs is expanding to offer new testing capabilities within its molecular marker laboratory.  This expansion requires a full-time permanent highly skilled Molecular Technician to join our team.

Ideally, the successful applicant will have at a minimum a two year Technical Diploma in Biotechnology or a closely related field.  Experience in molecular techniques, good lab practice, and working in a lab environment is desirable.  Effective oral and written communication, organizational, record keeping, and computer skills such as MS Office and the capability to learn new software is required. The ability to read and interpret testing procedures, operating/maintenance manuals, and demonstrate solid decision making and problem solving skills is essential.  You must be able to work independently and be able to communicate and liaise effectively with other members of the team to balance and prioritize tasks during peak periods.

You will play a major role in the day to day operations of the molecular marker screening laboratory.  Expectations include the ability to organize and perform routine DNA extraction, PCR, and real time PCR while maintaining records via various data management systems to assure consistency, reliability, and credibility of lab data and test results.  You will perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced detail-oriented environment while at all times exercising care and good judgment to prevent accidents and injuries.
