Description

Under the supervision of the Community Support Program Supervisor, this position promotes and ensures the success of the Community Support Program by:
- engaging in highly visible patrols within identified areas that reassure community members including local businesses;
- patrols on foot provide a familiar, highly visible, and uniformed presence;
- coordinating with community support organizations and Saskatoon Police Service;
- the Community Support Program establishes and facilitates relationships with local businesses, residents, and community organizations in order to be aware of potential issues and collaborate in potential solutions;
- assists community members at risk in accessing relevant supports such as food, shelter, health care, addictions and crisis counseling;
- responds to requests regarding panhandling, loitering, public drunkenness, and other related activities; and
- is responsible for municipal bylaw enforcement.
Requirements:
Candidate should have or be working toward a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or Criminal Justice or
equivalent combination of education and experience.  Candidate should have some experience performing outreach work and/or working in the human services field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability in developing effective relationships with the public, co-workers, business and community support agencies
- Ability to interpret various issues, solve problems, and make effective decisions
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties
- Experience with conflict resolution including mediation and negotiation
- Knowledge of the issues related to poverty, mental health, addictions, homelessness, etc.
- Considerable knowledge of community support agencies
- Willingness to conduct  municipal bylaw enforcement and deal with challenging situations.
* Shift work (ten hours shifts) & weekend work is required.
