Job Description: The staff Recreation Therapist is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team in mental health & addiction services. The primary rehabilitation goal is to increase participant's interdependent leisure functioning through leisure education and leisure counseling.
Responsibilities include: selecting and utilizing standardized clinical assessment tools, scoring and interpreting results; designing therapeutic recreation interventions; developing realistic leisure goals which address the mental health issues and illness of clients; establishing community discharge plans with follow-up measures where possible. Incumbent will select and implement outcome measures to demonstrate intervention efficacy, support and participate in clinical research related to the program as appropriate, lead/co-lead educational sessions, and provide in-service education where appropriate.
An understanding of health promotion and preventative initiatives in Mental Health & Addictions. Current knowledge of mental health & addictions issues and mental illness in a variety of settings, i.e. Acute and community. Knowledge of mental health & addictions and illness across the lifespan. Knowledge of therapeutic recreation interventions appropriate to mental health & addictions. Requires concentration and attention for formal team assessment, treatment, teaching and report writing. Requires coping skills to work with clients dealing with stress, role loss and other psychosocial issues. Some physical exertion required. Understanding of the impact of mental health & addictions issues and mental illness in a variety of settings, i.e. Acute and community.
Required Qualifications

Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
Registered with or eligible for registration with the Canadian Therap
