Description

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a permanent full-time position as Legal Services Advisor, starting in October 2019.  

SUMA is the voice of Saskatchewans hometowns, the cities, towns, villages, and northern municipalities across the province, representing our members interests to other orders of government. The SUMAs office is in Regina.

Legal Services Advisors provide in-house legal services to SUMA in a variety of areas including litigation, municipal law, planning and administration, employment law, real estate, and corporate law. Legal Services Advisors also assist on a range of municipal and corporate legal services, including bylaw enforcement, labour law, contracts, planning and development law, litigation, and legislative drafting. Legal Services Advisors help SUMA members as well by providing legal information and resources.  

Main Responsibilities:
Provide SUMA legal advice on a range of areas of law with identified potential impacts and recommended options, draft and review legal documentation, assist in preparing and reviewing SUMA bylaws and policies, assist in developing Board and staff training on legal duties and issues, and assist with SUMAs communications.

    Effective case management and organizational skills.

The successful candidate will hold a law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan and have experience in the practice of municipal or corporate law.
