Summer Student JobSpecific Responsibilities:
Animation and Enrichment of Exhibits.
The Science Explorer works to engage the visitor in discovery and science exploration. This requires awareness of the visitor, imagination and creativity as well as familiarity with some scientific principles.
Demonstrations, Day Camps, Camp Ins and Community Programming.
The Science Explorer conducts pre-arranged stage shows, demonstrations, leads camps programs, and assists in the delivery of birthday parties and events, the purpose of which is to educate and entertain visitors.
Education and Development.
The Science Explorer continually develops their knowledge about science and visitor education by attending staff training sessions, reading available material and expressing innovative ideas.
Animal Care.
Science Explorers are typically responsible for the daily feeding and cleaning of the Science Centres resident animals. Training will be provided for handling animals.
Exhibit Maintenance and Evaluation.
Science Explorers maintains a clean environment on the exhibit floor, as well as monitoring exhibits for effectiveness and needed repairs or improvements.

Qualifications and Assets
- Strong customer service skills with a positive attitude towards co-workers and visitors
- First Aid/CPR and WHMIS Certified would be an asset
- Experience teaching or instructing children and adults
- HighFive training would be an asset
- Preference given to applicants with education, technology and/or science background with some university or technical training
- Strong curiosity and interest in science
