The Ministry of Corrections and Policing is accepting applications for Permanent Part Time Correctional Officers across the province. Correctional Officers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Correctional Officers are responsible and accountable, exhibit leadership, embrace diversity and equality, and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
A Correctional Officer will: work closely with adult offenders who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems, manage a caseload of adult offenders, applying various counseling methodologies including addressing criminogenic factors and their relationship to human behaviour; establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal); appropriately apply policy, procedures and legislation; be responsible for the security of adult inmates in different correctional settings; maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment; accurately input, update, and format information using a variety of computer software and electronic systems; and be available for shift work.
Typically, a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
