The Light and Power Department is accepting applications for a Permanent Full Time Powerline Technician Apprentice. This is considered a training position and upon successful completion of 4 apprenticeship years, the candidate will obtain an Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate. Under the supervision of the Line Superintendent and/or a qualified Journeyperson, this position is responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of most aspects of the utility operation including overhead and underground distribution systems, street light systems, traffic control systems, metering, transformation, substations and associated switchgear. All work is conducted within the City of Swift Current utility service area.
Basic Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent with Math A30 and one level 20 science
Must be indentured in a Powerline Technician Apprentice program
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License, and possession of (or ability to obtain) Class 1A Drivers License
Must be willing to become Youth Certified
Ability to complete required training courses
Physical aptitude to perform the job
Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities required.
Familiarity with computers and windows based applications
Wages and benefits in accordance with the City of Swift Current -- IBEW Local #2067 Collective Agreement 2019 range $26.06 to $36.92 per hour.
