Facility: Quality Management
Job Description: The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) will be accountable for providing infection, prevention and control related services within Saskatchewan Health Authority.  The principle functions are to:

- Perform surveillance; data collection and management; data analysis and interpretation; and, communicate surveillance results
- Serves as an educator and educational resource for health care providers, support staff, patients, families and the general public to prevent and manage infections
- Participate actively in Quality Improvement activities
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures
- Recommend initiatives to improve infection prevention and control practices
- Perform research activities


Experience
Qualifications:

Education
Degree in a Health Related Discipline  
Must have current standing with appropriate registration/licensing body
Certificate in Infection Control and Epidemiology (or obtain certification within 2 years)

Experience
1 year healthcare experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Possesses knowledge and has job related experience in health care
Works independently, is self-motivated and is self-directed while possessing the ability to work within a team
Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate the important components of infection control with all levels of staff and patients
Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills
Possesses knowledge of, and is able to utilize, principles of program development and teaching
Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills
Possesses knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology and infectious disease
Demonstrates a working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point
