The CLSI is now accepting applications to fill the position of Associate Scientist as a member of the Brockhouse sector team in the Science Division. The Brockhouse sector will be dedicated to x-ray diffraction and scattering for materials science. The Brockhouse sector consists of two side-bounce wiggler beamlines and an undulator beamline, all operable simultaneously and independently. The sector provides high flux of hard x-rays in the range of 5-94 keV for the study of a wide range of materials at room temperature and pressure or under extreme conditions.
Responsibilities:
-Reporting to the Brockhouse sector Beamline Responsible, the Associate Scientist will take an active part in the final phase of commissioning and also in the current and future operation of the beamlines.
-This will include setting up the beamline for experiments, programming, performing alignments, calibrations and measurements, basic data analysis, troubleshooting a variety of hardware instrumentation and beamline software, providing effective user support.
-The candidate will also write manuals for beamline components and instructions for component installation, alignment and maintenance.
-Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
Requirements:
-Applicants must possess a minimum of a M.Sc. degree in a natural science or engineering discipline.
-A Ph.D. degree and experience in complex electro-mechanical systems and synchrotron instrumentation would be considered strong assets.
-Experience with X-ray diffraction and programming is required.
-Experience with advanced instrumentation, ultrahigh vacuum systems and x-ray optics are an asset.
