The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) safeguards and protects the people, property and resources of Saskatchewan through partnerships, coordinated planning, education, prevention, mitigation, response and recovery.
As a member of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, Wildfire Management, in Prince Albert, the Fire Weather Forecaster, under the supervision of the Chief Meteorologist, will work closely with science technicians and professionals of the Weather, Sciences, Training and Fire Operations Units.
Under the supervision of the Chief Meteorologist, you will:
analyze weather data such as satellite imagery, numerical model output, radar imagery, vertical soundings, surface observations and lightning data;
forecast short range and midrange weather events for wildfire preparedness planning and suppression operations, prescribed burn operations and emergency requests;
prepare and disseminate fire weather analysis and forecasts and provide pertinent meteorological information to provincial, regional, and district staff;
produce weather briefings for the branch staff;
monitor the operation of the ministry's remote sensing network and satellite downlink data feed and initiate repairs/troubleshooting requests or procedures if necessary; and
assist in the production and delivery of weather training modules.
The Weather and Sciences Units have developed and operated an internal operational Apache web site and a Postgresql database to support production, dissemination and communication with the fire operations users.
