Facility: BIG RIVER HEALTH CENTRE
Job Description:     The D.O.C. is the on-site manager for long term care and integrated facilities within Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.  Her/his job includes an element of care planning using a team concept and supervision coupled with responsibility for human resource management.  She/he acts as the primary clinical resource for the unit/facility.
    The D.O.C, as a resident advocate, works in collaboration with physicians to build and maintain a team like atmosphere that ensures high quality care using evidence based practice.  Ensures referrals to medical and other disciplines as required.
    The D.O.C. communicates with families of clients about the needs of care of discharge planning on an ongoing basis.
    The D.O.C. may engage in required projects such as teaching and/or coordinating certain district initiatives such as MDS RUGS, Eden Alternative or behaviour management.
    The D.O.C. plans, assists in the implementation and evaluates nursing care within the facility to ensure that a high quality of care is delivered to the consumer.  She/he ensures that medical orders are executed as directed by a physician and resident confidentiality is maintained.
    The D.O.C. provides facility staff with clear direction regarding the scope and limitations of their functions; responsibilities and accountabilities for care of clients/residents.  The D.O.C. recruits, hires, orientates, supervises, and evaluates facility staff.  This may include counseling, disciplining, and terminating employees.
    The D.O.C. ensures staff scheduling, payroll and benefits are administered in accordance with current collective agreements.  She/he is also the first line person in the event of employee complaints or disputes inclusive of the grievance procedure.  She/he also liaises with union as necessary.
