Description

The Chemical Processing Scientist will be responsible for daily chemical processing activities,physicochemical analysis of these operations, daily set up and clean up of equipment, and adhering to Quality Department guidelines and constraints.

Key Responsibilities
planning, executing & reporting on operations that:
extract cannabinoids and terpenes from dried cannabis
decarboxylate cannabinoid acids
fractionate cannabinoids and terpenes from process & product related impurities
formulate products
analyse process performance (e.g. LC-UV; GC-FID; UV-Vis; gravimetry)
operating within Health Canada cannabis regulations
related documentation duties will primarily be writing and/or editing batch production records (BPR) and associated SOP, etc. and executing operations according to these documents
Assist in planning, executing and evaluating process improvements.

Familiarity with the following Unit Operations
Drying
Dry Milling
Extraction (CO2)
Decarboxylation (fluid state)
Analytical support for the above (e.g. HPLC; GC; FID; MS; UV-Vis)
Packaging & labeling
Product formulation

Additional Assets
Extraction (EtOH)
Winterisation
Filtrations (clarification & depigmentation)
Short Path/Wiped Distillation
Rotary Evaporation
HPLC (organic solvents and CO2; column i.d.  20 cm)
Organic Solvent Removal and Recycling (e.g. pressure-swing distillation)
Auto-trimming & Pelleting
Statistical Design of Experiment and associated software
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Inventory/CTLS & QMS
Manage and report inventories of bulk materials and end-products

Qualifications
MSc or MEng in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred
Experience in an organic or analytical chemistry lab or plant laboratory environment is an asset
Extraction experience with botanicals or cannabis is an asset
