Description

Facility: Athabasca Health Facility
Job Description: The Athabasca Health Authority is seeking the services of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for one (1) week per month in the Athabasca Basin. The SLP will provide professional and compassionate care to patients/clients/residents. The SLP will assess, develop and provide individual treatment plans for children who have various levels of speech, language, communication and swallowing problems. The Speech Language Pathologist works in collaboration with the childs family/guardian, preschool/school, social worker and other health care professionals. If time allows, the SLP may work with adult clients. The SLP will be required to travel throughout the Athabasca Basin to provide services and will be under the supervision of the Health Promotion Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Detect communication delays/disorders in young children through effective screening programs; work with families and professionals to raise awareness of speech and language development.

Work closely with parents and caregivers, professionals, educators and family support workers to provide effective programming.

Evaluate and monitor communication skill development; identify and differentially diagnose type and degree of communication disorder; identify individual strengths, needs and learning patterns.

Develop individualized treatment programs; provide individual and group training programs for family and professionals involved with the individual client to promote effective communication strategies; provide speech and language therapy on an individual or group basis.


ROLE REQUIREMENTS


Ability to function competently within the scope of practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Act with cultural awareness and sensitivity for the Dene peo
