Description

Reporting to the Director of Engineering:
The Superintendent of Public Works oversees the overall operations of the Public Works Department. The department is comprised of seven direct reports: Sewer & Water Foreman, Streets & Roads Foreman, two Mechanics, a Welder, an Admin Coordinator and a Yard/Inventory Clerk with approx. 35 employees within the department as a whole. The employee group consists of both Out of Scope Employees as well as unionized employees with CUPE Local 90.

Responsibilities:
- The preparation and management of annual operating and capital budgets for all reporting divisions;
- Preparation and management of Tender and RFP processes for procurement of equipment, goods and services;
- Directly manages Fleet Services Division, Airport and Landfill;
- Oversees managers for Transportation and Utility Divisions;
- Development of departmental operation procedures and efficiencies;
- Liaison and consultation with governmental agencies in relation to legislative requirements, programs and funding arrangements;
- Liaison with the general public, stakeholders and media;
- Serving on various boards and committees and attending occasional City Council meetings as required;
- Staff recruitment, orientation, training, performance appraisal and required disciplinary action; and
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Some combination of post-secondary education and experience in engineering, public works or a related field;
- Minimum of five years management/operations experience;
- Must hold and maintain a class 5 Drivers license; and
- Experience within a municipal environment would be considered an asset.
