The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for the permanent full-time position of Parks Maintainer in the Community Services Division.

Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent you will perform maintenance of city parks and greenspaces, playground equipment, sports field grounds and related city properties. This will include mowing, string trimming, top dressing, aerating and fertilizing of turf, along with application of herbicides. Other duties will include the construction, maintenance and refinishing of parks furniture and if required, assisting at the city cemeteries. During the winter months you will be required to operate and maintain the outdoor ice rinks.    

Basic Requirements:
. Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent);
. A valid Saskatchewan driver's licence;
. A drivers abstract that must be provided annually;    
. Willingness to obtain a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check as we are a Youth Certified Employer;
. Power Mobile Equipment Training;
. OH&S Level 1;
. Ground Disturbance;
. Able to operate small gas engines - powered equipment (e.g. lawn mowers, rototillers, string trimmers, chainsaws, etc.);
. The ability to lift 50 lbs.;
. Able to perform outside physical labour;
. Able to work alone or with a crew; and
. Be punctual and have good time management.

Desirable Requirements:
. Previous experience in the operation of utility tractors (20 - 80 hp);
. Previous experience in irrigation and Cemetery Operations;
. Occupational Health and Safety Training;  
. Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping or some closely related field;
. Mechanical aptitude and experience in maintaining small gas engines; and
. Ability to read plans and blueprints.
