Reporting to Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment such as loaders, dozers, graders, track hoes, rollers, water trucks, oil trucks, & skid steers. Operators maintain their equipment to ensure health & safety of themselves & others. This position requires the ability to work out of town for extended lengths of time.
Job Duties:
-Operate hydraulic pumps, safety valves, & any other necessary mechanical components
-Operate gasoline &diesel powered units
-Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations & compliances
-Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor
-Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations
-Diagnose/identify defects in equipment &report back to supervisor
-Perform minor maintenance work
-Keep detailed & accurate reports & documentation
-Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation & OH&S
-Maneuver trucks/heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, following signals as needed
-Check vehicles before operating equipment
-Assist in loading & unloading of trucks
-Perform periodic inspections
-Assist with labour duties as needed
-Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Requirements:
-Minimum 2-3 years experience on a construction site operating heavy equipment; Experience operating a water/oil truck a definite asset
-Valid drivers license with the ability to get to & from site; A class 3A license is a definite asset
-PME certification for equipment
-High attention to detail with strong values rooted in health & safety
-Ability to work in a high paced environment with high physical demand
-Strong work ethic
-Ability to work overtime & out of town
-Steel-toe safety boots are required
