SIGN operates a co-ed group home licensed for five adolescents. It provides a program to assist the youth in understanding & resolving personal and family issues, and to prepare youth to successfully return to the care of parents or guardians or to provide support to the youth leading to independent living.
The worker will assist in the development & implementation of quality programming to enhance the personal, educational, emotional, & social development of the youth living in the home.
Hours of work are scheduled on a rotational basis with approx. 150 hours in a 4-week period. On-call work is a requirement as per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Duties Include:
Care & Supervision of Residents:
o Ensure the safety of the residents while they sleep, conduct required room checks & note behavior as required
o Ensure the security of the home by completing & recording security checks
o Assist in food and meal preparation
o Assist residents in following scheduled routines & in the development of positive lifestyle choices, healthy relationships, emotional stability, & healthy coping strategies
Physical Maintenance of the Group Home:
o Follow Nightly Check Lists & perform any required additional duties
o Inform Program Manager of any necessary repairs or issues (ex. missing sharps, keys, etc)
Recording, Reporting, & File Upkeep:
o Document all relevant information & maintain & update files
o Create Incident Reports when required
o Communicate pertinent information to the oncoming staff during shift exchange
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Social Work Degree preferred but equivalent in education, training & experience will be considered. Experience working with youth in a residential setting & in the development & implementation of programming related to youth. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Strong verbal & written communication skills
